In a 223 with a small gas port hole in the barrel, theres just not enough gas to cycle it. I could get it to cycle down to about 1300 fps, but below that, no dice. I spent several years running around the country demonstrating the ammo to numerous state and federal agencies but it was never considered anything more than a novelty at the time. It was during that time we recorded this demonstration video. On a side note: a friend of mine who manufacturers suppressor gave me a can that he had just completed with a new baffle design for this demo. It fires the first round and any manually cycled rounds with zero problems.ĪAC 51T Flash Hider with suppressor quick connect, He failed to clean all the cutting fluid out of the can during assembly so when I fired the gun during the demonstration the suppressor spewed large volumes of smoke….go figure. As the subject title says I have an SBR that I'd like to shoot suppressed subsonic rounds out of but it won't cycle. I've lubed and polished all of the moving parts and it has less than 500 total rounds through it. 223 caliber firearms.5.56x45mm Tactical Cycling Subsonic Atomics Tactical Cycling Subsonic 5.56x45mm is unlike traditional high powered rifle ammunition. With supersonic it functions fine both suppressed and non-suppressed. Unsuppressed it is as quiet as most 22 long rifle ammo and have minimal felt recoil. With both of the subsonic it will not cycle suppressed or non-suppressed. The "gas to the face" is non-existent with sub-sonic and bearable with super sonic. I have swapped out BCG's, charging handle, buffer springs, buffers and complete uppers to no avail. They usually will cycle a semi auto 22LR but since most 22lr have 1:16 twist barrel they dont spine those long 60grain bullets fast enough to stabilize them. (I have a second 10.5" 5.56 upper.) I have not tried a different lower as I was running out of time and patience. Out of your AR barrel you should have enough twist to stabilize them. They would be very sub sonic and still have moderate energy, at least compared to other 22lr ammunition. (Plug the breech, blow down the barrel and move the gas block until the pressure pushing the air into the barrel is minimized thereby making sure the barrel and gas block holes are fully aligned.) The gas block is a standard low profile that has been tuned for maximum gas transfer. Is a 10.5" barrel too short for suppressed subs? Do I need to go with a 16"? The purpose of this is a bedside HD gun that wouldn't blow my ear drums out if fired indoors. This shows that we will have to ultimately take into account the inefficiencies that occur in a real engine in order to make reasonably accurate predictions. I like the short compact length of the 10.5" with the suppressor.
